History

San Ramon Valley High School (SRVHS), originally called San Ramon Valley Union High School, began in a Danville house in 1910. It was the valley’s first public high school. Classes were also held above a Front Street store before moving into a dedicated mission-style high school building on its current site in 1917.

When the high school was first founded, there were approximately 30 students. Over the next several decades, the student body grew significantly and additional classroom buildings and athletic facilities were added. Some of those, such as the pool complex built in 1953, are still in use today.

Now, more than 2,000 students attend San Ramon Valley High School annually. Facilities and programs are in great need of support beyond what the San Ramon Valley Unified School District can provide. Due to constraints from both the state budget crisis and the school’s rural zoning designation, SRVHS does not receive sufficient funding from the district and the state to upgrade the school, one of the oldest high schools in the Bay Area.

In 2009, a group of parent volunteers founded the San Ramon Valley High School Wolf Foundation. The vision of the school’s principal, Joe Ianora, coupled with this group’s commitment has resulted in an organization dedicated to providing consolidated management of financial resources used for development and improvements to the facilities and support of academic and arts programs on campus. This vision is straightforward: to build a community partnership dedicated to the development of student achievement through capital improvements on the SRVHS campus.
